Since 1972 our company motto has been “Excellence on and off whitewater.” Our operation prides itself on putting the customer first, by taking the time to listen to their comments and suggestions. Our customers are the reason we are one of the best companies on the river today. We pride ourselves on bringing our guests the best guides, equipment, and facilities we can.
During the Spring and Fall the weather and water can be cool. Swimsuits, waterproof windbreakers or jackets, wool or poly-propolene shirts, and wool socks are ideal. Wetsuits, as well as spray-jackets and boots, are available to rent at our outpost on a first come, first serve basis. No Cotton. Jeans, sweatpants, and sweatshirts will only make you colder. They are also uncomfortable to wear.
Summer months are generally warmer and usually a swimsuit and shorts are fine. T-shirts can also be worn for protection from the sun as well as a baseball cap and sunglasses. Please remember to wear sunscreen.
Shoes are required for all of our rafting trips. Tennis shoes or sandals with a heel strap are allowed. NO FLIP FLOPS.
Also bring: Towel, Dry Clothes, Dry Shoes.
What happens if there is bad weather?
Our trips go rain or shine. You’re going to get wet anyway. Trips are rarely canceled. If there is a problem our reservation staff will notify you immediately.
What if I can't swim?
Many of our guests can not swim. You are not alone. Everyone who rafts is required to wear a personal floatation device (PFD, life-jacket) at all times while on the river. These PFD's are Coast Guard approved, and will hold you up in the water.
Is there a lunch on the trip?
All of Appalachian Wildwaters' trips are full day trips with lunch. Most lunches will be deli-style with the exception of the Sweets Falls BBQ on the Upper Gauley One Day.
Will my trip be photographed or videotaped?
We make every effort to photo and video all of our trips. However, because of staff and number of trips, some trips will not be caught on film. If you would like to guarantee a photographer or videographer on your trip, you will have to purchase it at the time of reservation.
Do you offer group discounts?
Group leaders who collect funds from each rafter in their party and make one payment will be eligible to receive one complimentary trip with every fifteen paid.
Can we request a guide?
Yes, and that request should be made at the time of reservation. Remember that many of our guides have the same first name and that our reservationists may not have met all of our guides. Also, some guides are requested more than a year in advance. On some occasions the same guide may be requested for the same day. In that case, we will honor the earliest request. A request for a guide is just that, a request. We can not guarantee a that you will have the guide you requested on your trip, but we will do our best to honor it.
